05 / THE PRACTICAL EDITION
Travel with confidence.
A little preparation can make every journey better.
When to visit
The dry season from November to April is often pleasant across many tourist regions. May to October tends to be warmer and wetter, especially on the Caribbean side.
Money & payments
Cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but cash is still useful for markets, smaller businesses and local transport.
Health & safety
The country varies greatly in altitude and climate. Stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun and review region-specific health and safety advice.
Getting around
Domestic flights save time on long itineraries. Long-distance buses, private transfers and trusted ride apps work well in many major areas.
Food & culture
Tacos, moles, street food, seafood and a huge range of regional cuisine. Markets and busy local restaurants are a big part of the experience.
Photography notes
Early mornings work beautifully in historic centres and ruins. On the Caribbean coast, late afternoon often brings rich colour and softer light.
