Cape Town Where mountain meets the Atlantic.
Table Mountain, penguins, cliffs, heritage-filled neighbourhoods, vineyards and beaches. Your carefully planned escape between mountain and sea.
A city to see, explore and experience.
Cape Town brings together an iconic mountain, distinctive neighbourhoods and a peninsula of sweeping cliffs. Distances matter, so this guide groups attractions by area and separates essentials from optional stops.
Three or four full days work well for the city and peninsula; six or seven add wine valleys and slower discoveries. Keep flexibility for Table Mountain, Robben Island and sea conditions.

The details that make the journey.
Getting there
Cape Town International Airport (CPT) lies east of the city. Arrange a reliable transfer and allow for traffic.
Getting around
A car or organised tour works best for Cape Point, Boulders and Chapman’s Peak. Driving is on the left.
Safety
Avoid isolated walks and unfamiliar neighbourhoods at night. Check local advice, use reliable transport and leave no valuables in cars.
Where to stay
V&A Waterfront is convenient for first visits; Gardens and City Bowl are central; Sea Point and Camps Bay offer coastal stays. Compare costs and transfers.
Photography & stock
Golden light favours Camps Bay, Signal Hill and the coast; bring a telephoto lens for penguins. Check drone, park, indoor and commercial-use rules.
Weather & seasons
November to March is often warm and dry, though windy; winters are cooler and wetter. Conditions on the mountain can change quickly.
Bookings to prioritise
Reserve Robben Island in advance and check the cableway before visiting. Bad weather can stop both experiences.
Realistic timing
Do not cram Cape Point, Robben Island and wineries into one day. Allow for ferry conditions, driving delays and scenic stops.
Before you go, the answers that matter.
Mountain, ferry and road conditions can change: always check the day’s updates.
How many days do you need for Cape Town?
Four or five days are a good starting point. Two days cover the centre and Peninsula at a fast pace; seven let you include wine valleys and slower experiences.
When should I visit Table Mountain?
Choose the first clear, low-wind window with an operating cableway, rather than leaving it to your final day. Conditions change quickly.
Can I see the Cape Peninsula in half a day?
Plan a full day for Chapman’s Peak, Cape Point and Boulders Beach. A half-day schedule forces you to skip sights and rush.
What if the Robben Island ferry is cancelled?
Switch to Zeitz MOCAA, District Six, Bo-Kaap or city museums, and check the official rescheduling process.
Where can I see African penguins?
Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town has penguin-viewing boardwalks. Never feed, touch or pursue wildlife. Another well-known colony is at Stony Point, Betty’s Bay.
Can I sell photos and videos taken there?
Check park, museum and private-property rules. Commercial stock may require property or model releases, and drone operations can need specific permissions.
